Ok we want to make some new headers (bbc)

Our current which we made are single skin steel and are heavy.

Whats the lightest/best material to build them with??? They also need to be double skined.

http://www.stainlessheaders.com/index.aspx told me that most mandrel bends out there are overseas steel and American made mandrel bent tubes will resist cracking better. They will sell you USA pieces so you can build your own zoomies.

Titanium works great, its a little costly for most though.

Thanks for the replies. Weight is the issue, we want the lightest we can. But also as crack resistant as possible.

Is this for the altered? How about a 18-20 inch set of digger zoomies?
I just don't see how you can have light AND crack resistant with a set of funny car headers hanging 2 feet out or more out there.

No. Were going FIA alky funny car next year. Material really does not matter as we have a sponsor who can get anything we need.

Just want to save weight is all.

I thought some fuel teams tried titanium and they wound up cracking and breaking even worse.

For whatever its worth....talk to this guy.His name is Gregg Holeman he has been building custom headers for about 25 years. He can tell you what is what about all of the materials you have been asking about.
He is at (928) 692-0111 the company is REF Unlimited, its worth the call.

Ti will not work on a supercharged app unless you want to weld them up nightly. Stainless works well, G-Force makes a great header. You can get them in iconell they just cost a lot. We priced a set for a BAE Fathead and we're in the $5k range for dragster zoomies. Out of all the companies out there Triple T and Heddman have the lightest stuff out there that doesn't fall off the car.

5K, I think I would leave a little extra food on my dinner plate at night! We skinned our headers with 3"aluminum dryer vent tubes for outer skin, saved a bunch there. That passed IHRA tech no problem unsure about other sanctions.Light weight fuel lines can get you some too.Hell we were so retarded we cut off excess bolts, drilled everything we could

    headers

if im not mistaken, titanium isnt allowed in tafc if i read the rules right. it doesnt specify both tubes have to be made of the same material, but i do know of a car in tafc that does run a steel inner with a aluminum outer shell. its how the rules are read i guess more than anything. i think titanium was outlawed after austin had a set built. i could be wrong, and usually are, but i would make some calls to the div. director before you spenk 5k on a set!
