Long time reader and first time with a post. I crew on a doorslammer (Your pro mod) in competition eliminator down in OZ and we want to convert it from a ladder bar to 4 link in the off season and we are going to use the current sheet metal rear housing with some mods. My question is - will moving the 4 link bar brackets on the housing further forward of the axle centre line effect weight transfer etc ? , i know the height above and below the axle centre line effect leverage due to the axle rotation and was just wondering if there was any adverse effect from them being further forward on the housing

Jerry Bickel book is a good starting point, there is a lot more to it than meets the eye, but worth every bit of the set up once you are dialed in. Every chassis is different and it may be hard for one to answer your question since there is so many varibles.

    4 link Conversion

Are you trying to put in the 4 link with the existing frame? Is that why the brackets are going to be extended to make up the difference?

    Just a question

Thanks for the help guys, the chassi has to be modified for the front brackets anyway so we can mount them were ever we like to a certain degree but we are trying to use the same housing so we can save some coin. There is currently only the holes for mounting the ladder bar ( Swing arm ) in one position on the housing so we were going to try and bolt and weld the 4 link brackets using these holes which makes the brackets further forward on the housing. The current top and bottom holes for the ladder bar are very wide giving us a very large spread on the diff and no adjustability for the 4 link bars so some custom brackets fitted to the housing would give us the adjustment we need

    4 link

From what your saying, I would stop. What you are preposing is not going to be safe. I would put a proper 4-link in or take it to someone who can do it for you, because what you are trying doesn't sound safe and DON'T DO IT.

There will not be anything unsafe about it as we would not be putting the driver in if we were not satisfied with its strength but point taken. I can not see the difference of doing this and cutting up the housing and putting brackets on the housing for the 4 link bars as long as the correct braces are fitted.
