As many of you know because I have been asking you questions for the past 8 months, I've been going through a blown hemi TD that I bought last fall. Thank you to all that have helped, and to Will for this site.

Well, it went out for it's first shake down run today at our local 1/8 mile track. Great day! Funner than hell! I only got one pass, and it was all tire smoke, but worth every minute.

I have been practicing a routine in my garage every time I got a chance, hoping it would help me remember all the stuff I needed to do before, during, and after a run. It didn't work at all. I forgot almost everything. Forgot to turn on the burnout rev limiter, forgot to turn on the data recorder before I staged, and somehow managed to get it into second gear, so when I hit the transbrake and let off the footbrake it rolled the beams. Pretty much looked like Gilligan out there. Fortunately it was a test and tune, so no spectators. when I rolled the beams it killed the light, so I whacked it from the footbrake. No timeslip. Our track was as green as it can be. It was the first time it's had cars on it since last fall, and the snow just melted off of it a couple days ago, so it just lit em up from the start. Funny thing is, since I had never driven anything quicker than 10 seconds, I didn't know it! I lifted at 330, but I had a great time. I can't wait to feel a good hook.

Next outing will be Memorial weekend. Now that my cherry is broke I won't be all wigged out, and things should go alot better.

I've been extremely happy with all your work. The only thing I don't like about your stuff is the price. You don't charge enough. Makes me feel guilty. ;)

When I go out on Memorial weekend I'll remember to trigger the data recorder and be able to tell you what kind of boost/rpm it's making. I was sooooo looking forward to seeing a data log so I could see the stall, boost, flow, temp gain, etc... but got "buck fever" and lost my mind.

Oh, and by the way. My concerns about building too much head temp were unfounded. I staged cooler than I wanted. I'm going to have to carry more heat from the warmup to the line, or back up slower or something.

You didn't leave parts on the race track. That's a good thing.

You did a great job. 2 things to remember, 1: If the rods are still in it + it's shiny side up you had a great day 2: The worst day @ the track is better than the best day @ work! Don

I had my first blown alky pass last year and I'm still smiling about it, my face is starting to hurt.;) I went up in smoke on my first pass too, wierd.

About pulling the fuel shutoff to get heat in the motor, Yes I've done it when I get in a hurry, every time I have one side of the motor gets hotter than the other by quite a bit.

Maybe yours wont do that, and never forget to push the fuel shutoff back.

    First pass

Congrats on the first pass. Don't worry about the minor mistakes they go away pretty quick. I burned my clutch on my 3rd pass because I forgot to put the levers forward after my burnout.

    Have fun

    first pass

    congrats.

Don't worry about going too far in getting up to speed. When I was going to make my first license laps in Steve Burck's TAFC in 2001, my former Jr. Dragster car owner Johnny Rouse told me,"You don't have to worry about driving it too far, there's a little invisible string between your right foot and right nut. If it's going too fast, you'll lift."

    Just trust the string.... :D

Richard Putz does a neat thing they have round rings that are a bright color and they put them on the air bottels on/off valve and a crew guy takes them off and shows them to rich before he fires up the car..it works..Dave

I think thats a hell of a good idea. The crew won't have the same stress, and will be more likely to remember everything. Thanks.

    First Pass

I used to have a crew guy pull the chute pin ,walk it to the front and put it in my windshield so you know it's out.

Just makes you feel a lot better.
