I went from a typical 8-71 Bowers 18% OD on a BBC to a 14-71 BDS Pro Charger

I got the blower used, I modified it a little to work on my street/strip car.

I just fired it up the first time today, and I am a little worried.

The drive gears make way more noise than the old bowers, however these gears are straight cut and much wider, they are nothing like the normal GMC helical cut gears.

I will run it for about 20 min and dump the oil from the front cover to look for metal, but suggestions on this would be great. If I screw this blower up I won't be able to run in the 9's this year :(

Here is a shot of the gears in question: [IMG]

What kind of oil did you put in the gear box?

Try calling Billy @ Oddy's. Jim ran them for years. Or call BDS direct, on the gear info. Good luck Don

You have the straight cut spur gears they will be noisier than the helical cut gears that the old bowers had

x2, In the transmission world, straight cut gears are usually stronger, but make a lot more noise. It just adds to the effect! :p

    Thanks!

    Thanks for everyone's input.

I promised myself back in college that I would have a 9 sec car that I could drive to work whenever I wanted...

Once I run a 9.90 or better, I will be putting a little less engine in the car (my wife says it is really making some of the neighbors angry), and I will start looking for a front engine digger.

At least I will be the only one at the track running a 14-71 and three AFB's...

I guess I'm lucky. My neighbors don't get pissed if I run my car outside my shop, they get pissed if I don't invite 'em when I do.

Same with me. They love the sound of a blown alky hemi idling. Most people in my neighborhood are in there 30's and 40's still livin like they were 20 so its cool with them
