It would depend on your oil clearances on the rods and mains. If you can hold at least a minimum 10 lbs of pressure for every 1000 rpm you turn then I would guess you are OK.

We run straight 50 in our BBC's with clearances nearly identical to what you listed. We've done this for years and years while every year increasing the HP and now we are at about 1650 HP

Just to make this fun, we use the 50w Valvoline and have been using the same oil for 3 years, with a little fresh added once in a while. BAE P/M.

The Valvoline 50 racing is great oil and will work with your clearences. I use Lucas .always use Justice Brothers additives in everything I drive. Insurance, no matter whose oil you use.

With similiar clearances in our blown BBC we used Kendall 50w and a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer, never had oil related issues.....

Here is what I know. The valvoline VR-1 that we all fell in love with a few years ago because it was available at checker, and it made more power on Eatons dyno than any other oil available for sale on one of their comp motors, is not the same formula as the current VR-1. The old VR-1 is now called Valvoline conventional racing oil. The new VR-1 is inferior, but still a decent option.
