    IMO
Since the goal is to complete the circuit, I ran mine from coil to cylinder head. The head is obviously connected to the spark plug and that completes the circuit.

The MSD directions tell you to ground the coil to both heads.

The spark plug isn't connected to the frame.

I am only familiar with SM II, III & IV's.
I've had more motors work without any "extra" grounding than those that needed it. But I also wish I had back those runs that I "wasted" because of a poor ground. Its cheap and easy to do the extra grounding.
If I were you I would run a wire from the coil directly to each head and be done. I have a male/female spade quick connection so when coil or heads get removed its quick and easy.:)

Coil to heads per MSD instructions. And definitely use a ground wire from your battery forward to a ground block and use ground wires from each circuit to the ground block, copper is a much better conductor than chrome-moly etc. The only reason the frame of a car was ever used for a ground path was to save money.
