    Hey All,

    Hopefully someone can help me...

I have a Pro Mag 44 Kill Switch Relay (pn 8134) that I want to use on our TAFC. I assume I shouldn't use just any old toggle switch for the 12v to this solenoid...or can I?

    Thanks in advance!

I used any old toggle switch as its only straight 12 volts that operates the relay. The relay is the important bit when it comes to handling the 44 power.

I like to use one of those toggle switches with a red guard over it that when you close the guard it turns the switch off and shuts off the motor. It is easy to hit with the gloves on. No searching for a small toggle switch.

Rather than hang a relay and all the junk that goes with it why dont you just use a quality toggle and cut it into the trigger lead comming out of the points box (purple wire) and bingo you have a nice and easy mag kill switch and you are not trying to dump a s-load of amperage through it.....Just a thought we have been doing it thatway for years.....leahy does some of his boxes like that as well

Mike - I'm not sure if I can make a switch with a cover work in the spot I'd like to put it, don't think the clearance is there.

nmro2114 - nope I don't use any of that stuff on our car, no timing controls, crank triggers, nothing.

afueldigger - I'm trying to figure out the best (ie: most cost effective) way to set up this leahy safety box for the mag kill portion. I have a call into Dave, just waiting on an answer. We currently use the SAE plunger type kill switch and that has worked great for us for years - but there's no way to make that work with the new safety box, thought this relay deal would work pretty slick though...I guess I'll find out. I'll ask him about that trigger wire deal.

I have heard a some people having trouble with the selenoid kill switches. The problem seems to occur when tire shake occurs. It lets the spring inside move and inadvertantly bounce back and forth to ground. I know of one person in particular that this happened to and with the relay grounding and ungrounding the rods decided they needed to be set free. I was asking about the retard box because if you use one and turn the 12 volts off you have a kill switch.

    afueldigger,
I was told to comply with NHRA rules I had to use one of those relays so that the master power shut off switch worked with the Mag when the switch was turned off on the back of the car.
How does the track crew shut down your car with the way you wire yours??
