I've been checking this site out every morning, just purchased a BAE motor and have learned a ton from you guys. My question is I'm looking at a Kobelco super man w/ K-9 rotor, how much/what is the difference to a K-11 rotor, What kind of boost difference, ect.
    Thanks for any info, Eric

The K9 rotor is highly susceptible to cracking due to the minimal material thickness between the groove for the teflon and the lightening hole. We split one in half, and I believe there were many others. Don't run the K9, the K11 is the one to use.

I agree with Ken. I have seen two split the rotors and blow the case apart. The K9 is a dog.

I copied this from a post I found from Darren Mayer (DMPE) on another forum because it is very informative on the K-9 (and K-8) rotor problems. It explains which ones may give you problems. I learned from it and stand corrected:D.

    Quote:
The rotors failures are not specific to the profile name such as K-11, K-9, the rotor failure is specific to the lightening hole in the rotor. If the rotor has a 1.25" lightening hole in the center of the lobe (not the bored area for fixturing, (plugs go in this bore)) the probability is greater it will fail. If the lightening hole is 1.125" it will not fail under normal conditions. (also notice the placement of the small hole is not on the lobe center)

How and why the hole became so big on a small number of rotor sets is a bit like Watergate. However a small number of K8, and K9 made it through this way to my knowlege.

Anyway, the chances are greater yours are not of this small batch but for your piece of mind it is easy to inspect. You will find the beginning crack will propagate down the Teflon dove tail and when it gets long enough without detection it becomes very ugly

That's interesting, I hadn't heard this story before either. I do know that I didn't get any support from DMPE when my 30 run old blower blew up though ..............
