John Geyer Passes

Read somewhere and just confirmed that John Geyer has passed away after a long, on and off battle with cancer. John was one heck of a driver and an equally as good of a human being. His persistance to beat cancer and his attitude druing his whole ordeal was incredible and he was a great example to many people. I know he had conversations about beating cancer with my mom. I remember when John had the opportunity to re-license in Tom Lemon/Rian Konno's car a couple years ago in Vegas. He was so happy to return to a funny car. I'll never forget that smile on his face... as it was a pretty good example of what kind of guy he was.

Many prayers go out to his family.

I saw where one of John's last wishes was to 'keep the funny car racing' A man after my own heart, Godspeed racing buddy

 

John was a truly nice guy and was thought of as such by the people who met him in his time racing alcohol and by those who got to know him during his highly successful stints in the Comp ranks. He battled for a long time, and I'm sorry to see him go.

 

Really sad news. Only knew John in passing at the races but in the brief times I did chat with him he had a great spirit about him. The cancer news was never good but John fought hard.

John Geyer was a super person. Funny. Smart. Talented. No BS. That's a list I think anyone would want in their back pocket.

I was talking with my old friend David Busby a few days back and we discussed the sad topic of John Geyer's passing. David reminded me of the crazy days we had in the '90s as kids racing cars without our parents around to modify our behavior. Geyer was a Comp guy back then, but we were thrilled to see him get a shot later at an alcohol car.

Racing doesn't mean much when you think of someone's life ending so early like Geyer's. But, we're glad we got to race with him. What a guy.

 

That is truly sad news. I hung out with John a lot in the 90's when we were racing Alcohol and had a lot of fun with him. What a great guy and will be missed.
