Has anyone run dragster front wheels on a funny car? What are you thoughts?

    Thanks, Paul

Maybe dragster tires/wheels can't take the downforce. Promod front tires and wheels may be a consideration to reduce weight. They are a lot smaller and lighter than FC tires/wheels

I do not speak from experience but as often as a funny car swerves around on a run and with the much higher load imparted by the stiffness of the front frame and with more wieght forward it would seem a recipe for disaster, I would assume funny car wheels are made the way they are for a reason.

this is a pretty good question, and should bring a few different responses. i think i will jump into the fire here. i don't claim to be an expert...but i think a dragster wheel/tire is plenty strong enough to work on a F/C. we run them on our car, and i can name quite a few altereds that run them as well. i think it's just personal preference. maybe it has something to do with the fact that all F/C's have to run front brakes and there would be alot more tire on the ground with the F/C tires. i know people that run front brakes on a dragster wheel, but they won't stop as well as a wider tire. someone needs to call a wheel company, get their input.

I built a blown alky engine for an altered with dragster front tires. On his first pass he got over by the centerline and whacked the throtle once. The thing made a left turn and the wheels turned right. The wheels looked to just slide and I beleve that if not for a 1 inch tire he should have been able to pull out of it. I have driven funny cars and altereds for alot of years now and with 3 inches of tire on the ground you have a better chance of saving the car on a small driver mistake. I would not do it because of the weight transfer, Driveability, Etc......

It makes a huge difference in how the car drives. We have two altereds, one with funny car and the other with dragster fronts. The car with the dragster fronts requires a very soft touch and feels like it floats down the track. The other with the funny car wheels can be muscled around and forced to go where you want it.
