I read another thread and everybody insists that you lube the valvetrain before every startup. I have never done this before and did not encounter any problems. Last year was the my 1st with a Hemi so I am wondering if I am just lucky or I have a different setup than most. I have BAE forged block, Veney fuel heads, Dechellis stands, tit. shafts, and Stage 5 rollers on intake and exhaust. The intake adjusters are from PSI with the groove for oiling.
I used good assembly lube when I put it together but other than that I have never pre-lubed any of the rocker gear. I am either very lucky, very good, or a disaster waiting to happen. Thanks for the input.

I do not have the external oil feed to the rockers. Anybody else with a similar setup that is not pre-lubing?

I like the Manton adjusters with the hole in the center....just a squirt of lube (Manton also - another little plug for ITA advertiser) as you adjust the valves - it's easier to get the lube to flow between the rocker arm roller and valve tip with some lash - we prelube at the beginning of each event...not every run....and have never had a pushrod or rocker arm issue....

On our BBF Boss Hemi if we do not prelube the adjusters at the start of each day we WILL burn an end off a pushrod. I have an oil can with a round ball end and I put it on the adjuster and pump oil down the hole into the pushrod. We use Manton Tool Steel adjusters and Tool Steel tips on the Manton pushrods.

I know on the FC with the BAE the rockers are always prelubed before initial day start up.

I think that with the valve spring pressures that we are using not prelubing is inviting failure.

Thanks for the replies. What are you using for lube? 70wt or assembly lube?

Mike may have the explanation. The valvespring pressures may be the reason why I have not had problems. From memory I think my springs are about 350 on the seat. That is probably not near what others on this board are running.

    Thanks again for the info.

I just figure if you are using motor oil to lube with and its in a squirt bottle with a bendable spout and you already got the covers off how long does it take to hit each adjuster and the valve end? From my point of view its so easy you may as well do it every time.

The Ford Hemi is at 350 lbs on the springs. I use motor oil seeing that is works great when going down the track.

    pre lube

I will coment on this one ,we have run this setup with veney fuel heads for some time now. I do not prelube every run this is on multi-engine pulling tractor, there is not ex. oil lines on these heads.we have very little trouble with burnt push tubes .started with all new manton parts and brad penn oil 70w are runs are long 15 seconds somtimes .lower rpms though 8000 .spring pressure is 340-360 that is key and the oil I believe .with the pinch alcholol they feed oil on intake shaft spring pressure is 400+ less trouble yet at of these geometry is better too. so if your close to this you might not have to much problems change spring pressures and rpm on fuel heads different story
