    Hi All,

I have a 511 KB Hemi running brad 5 heads, 44 mag, PSI D at 72%. I had an incident on the weekend were the Barrel Valve broke off in the skid causing very low GPM at stage RPM, and as it got staged up started shooting flames out the pipes as if the timing was retarded. The mag and crank trigger were all in the right spot after the run. Would the flames be caused buy a super lean condition?

    Thanks in advance.

Sorry but your post is a little confusing for me. Are you saying you had a skid that broke off the BV then with a broken BV you went up and staged and had flames out the exhaust OR you broke off the BV fixed it in the pits then went up and staged and had flames out the exhaust?

The other question is....was the timing changed by anyone prior to staging and having flames out the exhaust?

Yes, BV too lean can cause flames.

I am like Mike- what do you mean by the skid? Was the car crashed before you attempted to make that run where you saw the flames? If the car was crashed is there any possiblity the mag itself was damaged? Did you actually check the timing with a timing light after you saw the flames? Dave Germain

The BV Was a repaired one the was broken off in a two car crash. It and bodywork was the only damage. It was still 'attached' to the injector hat but could flop around, causing the scroll to be closed at stage RPM.

We did go stage the car, and attempt a run. We dont have a radio so there was no time to tell the driver to shut down. Didnt get too far though..

The Mag/Crank trigger was all normal, in the right spot. Just two runs before we ran two PB's, and the timing was checked before we took it out and raced. We mark all the mag and trigger in its spot to make shore it doesn't move. We couldn't check the timing as two intake valves had dropped on the run . (thats another problem in itself)

I think it was because it was too lean, just wanted a second opinion.

    thanks Guys

    Skid

AlteredFan; my guess is you're an Aussie. After 14 trips, I speak a little OZ:)
So as not to confuse the Yanks, in OZ speak, a skid is a run/pass/lap.
In the USA, as Dave says, a skid is in your skivies:D

Maybe this will help a little.

This is what you might hear at an Aussie race track.

    (translation in brackets)

Reporter runs over to the racecar as the driver emerges and says” that was an awesome run. Tell us what happened”

Thanks mate (friend), it was a bloody great (good) run. We've been having trouble with the old girl (racecar) and it’s been playing up a treat (not performing well)

But that run was grouse (excellent). The skid was way cool (burnout good / long) and I backed her up real good. (reversed carefully into tire marks) Right at the hit (start), it shook a little before getting up on the tires. Right then I knew it would be a flash (fast) run. I didn’t hit the buttons (gearshift) till the shiftlight was burning a hole in the dash and the engine was squealing like a 16yr old schoolgirl (revving very high) Before I knew it, I was popping the laundry (chutes) and pulling the old girl up (braking)

I didn’t see old mate (competitor) the whole run. Rekon (figure) I must have blown his doors off (beaten him by a lot) Poor bastard (friend)
He’s not a bad bloke (person) but talks a lot of crap (tells creative stories) but can pedal (drive) a buggy (racecar) on a good day (sometimes)

I gotta say Thanks to my boys (crew) who have been flat out like a lizard drinking (very busy) and have busted their asses (worked hard) to get the old girl (racecar) ready. We will be sure to crack open a few (drink beer) to celebrate. Everyone is welcome to come for a Barbie (eat bbq food and drink beer)

I also wanna say thanks to Wanderers Raceway. We love coming here ‘cos it’s sticky and smooth (good traction / no bumps) and the sheila’s are choice. (local women are good looking / friendly)

Thanks also to my sponsors, Leaky Engines, Fat Ass Gym, Extra Cold Beer and Rusty’s Hotel.

    Cheers

    Hey all,

I just threw another shrimp on the barbie. I figured my car was way to lean, new BV on the way just so this problem doesn't rear its head again. Motor wasn't too banged up so were all sweet to run again.

Thanks for the translation russ and bob. Real big language barrier i have found!
