    Lithium

If you are talking about Lithium batteries, its a whole different base game. You can't abuse a lithium battery like we do wet or gel cells and throw umpteen amps at them when you want a quick charge. They tend to explode when the charging is done wrong. Also you can't run them totally dead. If you have a lithium cordless drill you will see some sort of indicator telling you how much charge they have. That may be a nice feature but its there because the battery has to monitor its charge level and will shutdown when it gets drained so far. It has its own charger which also reads that charge and slowly brings it back to a full charge. I'm assuming car batteries are the same, just way more amps. I don't get the cost either. When the lithium cordless drill came out, Sears didn't jack the price 100 times more.

While I am not saying that they are 'not' overpriced to some extent, if you look at the price of a 16v lithium power tool battery and the output and do the multiplication you will find they are not all that far out of line.

My main concern is that if you choose to spend 2 grand on batteries and charger that you should get a design that has all the bugs out of it not an ongoing research project.

Don't get me wrong guys I am not knocking the few people out there who have tried to meet the needs of the racer, it is certainly a challenging environment and many of the manufacturers have stood behind the products during development as long as they were treated respectfully by the end user. I am just saying that for 2 gs plus, it would be nice if the product was at a point where you could pretty much consider it fail safe since a warranty will not save you from a loss in a 10k final or pay for repair of a car after a battery explodes.

That said the various lightweight batteries out there are the only answer for the guys on a diet:confused:
