Ran 1450 HP on stock block and stock steel crank, had some fretting on main caps but worked good for more than 75 passes.

Are you guys talking blocks that actually came out of cars/pickups? Are these short deck? Or are they GMPP blocks.

We couldn't keep truck blocks together making 1430 HP but we were detonating at one spot in the RPM band and didn't know it.

Mine were short deck factory 4 Bolt blocks (not the factory HP aftermarket) filled to the water pump holes. Like I said, had some fretting of the main caps but I also had that on a splayed billet Dart block (short deck). Since going to KB-Olds, no sign of that. The other problem you may run into on stock blocks are cracks from the head studs to the bores and pulled head studs because of thin decks. If you are starting from scratch, use a New Century or KB Block. If Dart or World Products made a skirted block and weight was not a problem, that would be an option. My 2 cents.

More of a question than an answer: Doesn't this also require an RPM consideration? The load on the crankshaft from 900 hp NA @ 9000 RPM may be higher than 1300 hp blown @ 7500 rpm.
