    Hi,

I have been reading a lot of really interesting posts on this site, much better tech that the HAMB, and much better roots blower info than LS1Tech.

I don't have an alcohol car, but it is on my list of things to do, first I have to get my semi daily driver to run a single digit pass at PIR.

I ran mid-10's with an ancient 8-71 bowers @ 12 psi, I just sold it to a guy in Sweden.

Now I have a pastel blue blower from San Jose.

So now that I bought it, I have a few questions.

    1) What really is going to happen if i run this about 30% under on the street with 87 octane, then change pulley's and run 30(or more)% over on the track with 116 octane?

    2) Does BDS make a good 14-71? I didn't find any thread or post about BDS on this site, perhaps they don't make race blowers?

Thanks for any input, feel free to be honest about the blower if is a POS it would be better for me to hear it now.

    Bds

That is a great blower, we had one on a 526 bbc went 6.80 216 at 3210lbs.
If you post a top intake pick, can give more info. we had a high helix with K8 rotors. that design was sold to Kobelco. way back.

one or the original Engineers for BDS now is at superchargerusa.com call them

ps; you got that blower for a great price.

$1100 Not the cheapest I have seen, but I met the guy a few years ago, he is pretty cool, and I have a friend who lives about 10 minutes away in Los Gatos, he picked it up for me.

    Milling out the top opening???

I think I want to mill out the top opening so that i can fit three AFB 750's.

Is that a really bad idea?

I know that any normal person would put on a injector hat or a pair of dominators, but I don't really think a mechanical fuel injection setup is the best choice for a drive to work type car, mostly because I don't really understand how mechanical injection works.

A pair of 1150 dominators are about 4 times as expensive as three AFB's for the same flow rating, and AFB's will probably idle better and get better cruise fuel economy.

You should probably call BDS and ask if you can run it on the street with carbs. I'm betting they will say no, because its too tight and so it will make too much heat and seize. That's what LF said about our 8-71 k8's.

Please help me understand a few basics about race blowers.

    1. Do the white strips wear out faster than the black strips?

    2. Is it correct that the white strips seal from rotor to case, and the black strips seal rotor to rotor (since the blacks are not on the tip they never touch the case, correct?)

With that combo I would question the 30 OD at the strip. You have a good chance of a large pile of parts on the ground. The first to go would be the pistons. Boost is hard on none blower parts we learned this the hard [expensive] way. But hey good luck.

I am not sure how much boost it will make at 30 over, the 8-71 with a smaller roller cam made 12 psi @ 15 over, and still made 12 psi@ 18 over

I guess I will see what OD it takes to get a 9.xx quarter mile, then if any parts are left I am going to start looking for a front engine dragster roller.

What about Snow performance type meth injection under the carbs that only operates under boost? This is a pretty common LS1 trick to bring down intake temps...
