Am looking to purchase a high speed high def video cam for external observation of various things related to our Pro Mod in action.

I figured that people must have already tried some of these cams in the past, and may have formed an opinion toward what has worked well and what has not.

I look forward to any feedback. I'm a video dummy, and the cam will ultimately be handed off to various willing but inexperienced volunteers.

    Thanks.

Racepak sells a camera that will sync to your Racepak Data System. If that isn't an option, check out www.crutchfield.com, they have some really nice cameras.

Maybe when Randy gets that dash setup for the datalogger, you could rig up a WOT switch so that after the launch you would be able to monitor the rear camera  of course I don't know if I would have wanted to know what was chasing me ;)

PS, Tell Mike that Leahy at electrimotion now has a deal where you can hook up a crank position sensor and an expansion module and connect it to the logger. It allows you to make sure the 8973 is doing exactly what is should be and in addition you could overlay the timing curve with shaft speed and Gs forward and lateral to see the affect of varied timing on the launch.

Contact Karu Pappa at karu_pappa@hotmail.com. He is a photograper in Europe that uses a high speed (slow motion) camera at race tracks. He is a very knowledgable person on the subject and can probably help you. You may have to use my name for him to talk to you.

Damn that's an excellent camera, About 4 years ago I shopped around and the best thing available for under 3 grand was a Panasonic video ($639.00) cam because its uses 3 cmos elements its able to have a very fast shutter speed (this is what is most important for action to keep the shot from blurring) it only does 30 fps but its shutter is 1/9000 manual and 30 fps and 1/1200 auto

Comparing it to the Exilim is a no brainer,

the Exilim EX-F1 is much better as shown below, it was a bitch to find in the specs that matter, its always hidden shutter speed and frame rate are the 2 biggies for action shots. Its an absoulute bargain at around $729.00

The Exilim appears to be able to shoot full res at over 60 fps with adequate shutter speed to freeze tire wrinkles completely.

    • Auto: 1 to 1/2000 second
    • Aperture Priority AE: 1 to 1/2000 second
    • Shutter Speed Priority AE: 60 to 1/40000 second
    • Manual: 60 to 1/40000 second

    Thanks for the tip Danny,

Casio has out a new version not as good but less than half the cost (300-400$) of the EX-F1 but I don't know if it does as good as the EX-F1
