I have heard drilling one hole in your floaters then installing them 180 apart helps rear mains, anny pros cons, size of hole, where do you drill it? any help is really welcomed after spining two rear mains

If you drill holes in your floaters and they are out of balance i would not want my feet anywhere close to the can

You're right on the money there, but you have to make sure that you drill the hole in the non-thrust side around the stand. Best thing to do is drill the floaters together so that the hole is in exactly the same place on both of them. It's such a simple fix, but so obvious when you think about why you need to do it! :D

    drilling

Yes, drilling the floaters helps from what I have seen first hand. As long as you remember to keep the holes opposed 180 degrees, there is no issue. I've seen a car that went from having oil falling out of the can about every 3rd run to having rear mains look like they hadn't been touched. Another thing to check is the runout on your flywheel. Make sure the flywheel itself is showing flat, not just the heat shields. After some time, those heat shield "pucks" grow, shrink, anneal and heat treat at different rates and it can draw the structural piece of the flywheel out of flat, which will throw the whole clutch out of balance.

As far as where to drill the hole and how big? Most of the time I see them, they are close to center, but a little closer to the O.D. than the I.D. of the floater and IN BETWEEN the dogs/lugs/pockets. I've seen anything from a 3/8" to a 9/16" hole. Also, with my anal rententive ways, if you use the "lightened" or "offset" floaters where only every other stand pocket is a FULL pocket, make sure that you drill them so you can stagger the full pockets on the clutch when you're putting it together. I don't like all the coast lugs hitting on the same stands/studs because you only have 3 coast side lugs on each floater. Spreads the deceleration forces across the whole clutch.

Be sure to drill those holes right through the middle of those SFI tags, they put them on there as targets.

I'm going to drill my hat, flywheel and donut, too. Right through the SFI tags. That'll fix it.
