Hey all, been around here a while but just lurking. Usually a search answers my questions but not this time. New to blown alcohol, running one in a drag boat. We run on an index, have more than enough power and are not subject to fuel checks. I'm interested in if anyone is using fuel additives for "top end lube". Apparently they are easier on the fuel system corosion issues. Any recommendations or should I just run straight methanol...
    thanks

I use either red line or klotz alcohol lube works great in a pulling application

I've never really understood what part of the top end that stuff is supposed to lube?????
Is something wearing out and no one tole me about it?
Only benefit I could see is taking some of the sting out of the fuel odor.

Mostly valve guides on the port side and better lube for the top ring, plus the aforementioneed reduced corrosion over time on the fuel line aluminum fittings. Straight meth is really dry. More of an advantage for combo's that aren't getting torn down every race.
Almost forgot, biggest advantage is keeping the fuel pump lubed, and lasting longer between rebuilds for those classes that allow lube.

    Does it effect plug readings?

no the plugs read the same with or without it you only use a quart to 55 gallons but if you can use it your pump and the rest of your fuel system will live longer

I like the Klotz lube I think its called UPLON. It seems too burn off a little easier, I think some of that stuff gets slimey, and it coats the inside of your pipes with sticky black stuff.

If your motor and heads are built right I dont think it does much so I use a really lean mix of it.

I worry about the fuel system more than anything, and I think it helps keep the pump lubed.

Thanks guys. Our tune up is fine, but anything I can do to minimize fuel system issues is a help. We check bearings, but otherwise don't tear the motor down so things that help longevity is key.

The biggest problem with Alcohol in a boat is keeping your fuel from absorbing moisture H2O.
The Red Line Alcohol Fuel Lubricant is a synthetic that will displace alcohol on steel and aluminum surfaces. This is where it prevents corrosion in the fuel system that H2O increases dramatically.

The Red Line literature says it is not detectable by normal fuel tests. 'this I have not tried directly' but we do not flush the tank and lines out after using it for test and tune and never had a problem.

I can say it works as they claim for everything.
