One of my spies ran accross this. Validity is in question. Keep in mind this is a rumor at this point. At any rate, we'll spill the beans, and get some feedback nonetheless...

Word I hear is there is a plan floating around to 'phase out' the alcohol cars as they are now within two to three years to be replaced by a Jr. Fuel Dragster and FC. Both classes would be blown nitro tamed down versions of Top Fuel. Something like smaller blower, one mag, less nitro...

This source has been reliable in the past. I'm not going to put it in the 'take it to the bank' category however, because it does have a far fetched sound to it...

I'm going to try to get a call in to Len Imbrogno tomorrow to see if there's any truth to it.

    Your thoughts?

hey will now that would be a nice idea, a class that actuly would help to go to the next level, kinda like nascar. you have truck, then busch, then cup. it could be kinda the same, like super comp, jr fuel dragster, and then fuel, i like the idea, it wouldn't be bad at all, but the way nhra has screwed up every thing else, they probally won't do the jr idea either right!!!!, but we all agree with the current sitution something needs to be done now not later, i aint racing this year cause of this B.S., i hope they let the a/fuelers go back to 100% cause 98% isnt going to work!!

hey speedude the idea with the jr fuel ,would be a step down from top fuel, so the blower needs to be there,if no blower then what is the purpose in having a jr fuel then, so i like the idea, it sure would be better then what we have now.

Don't shoot me, but... wouldn't it be cool for A/Fuel to become Jr Fuel, running on 100%. TAD would be for Blown Alcohol Dragsters only. Jr Fuel Funny Car could run injected nitro too and Alcohol Funny Car would stay Blown Alcohol.

In the "what if" department I think a class for injected nitro funny "A/FC" or "Jr/FC" would be great! When it comes to booking shows/match racing anything with nitro gets more attention than alochol. Racers with injected nitro dragester have a huge advantage booking thier cars over blown cars. If they wanted injected cars and blown cars can work together to create a show that makes both cars look good to the fans, make money for the track and themself. I would take the blower of our funny in a hartbeat if I had a place to race an injected nitro funny.

Let's face it, all of us cannot be national record holders, but if you wanted to, no better place to work on the numbers than lots of races where you get paid, win or lose.

Hey Will, If this rumor has any truth to it at all it might be the ONLY solution to the parity issue in the TAD class. I personally do not think that there will ever be a solution to level the playing field between BAD's and AF's that both sides will be geniunely thrilled about. In my opinion, if something like Jr. Fuel is not done I personally think the only real solution would be to divide up the class into their own separate fields. If this is not an urban legend, maybe this IS the answer. Keep us informed on the subject Will after you talke with Len.

p.s. As an earlier post mentioned, anyhing with Nitro does sell better to the average fan.

My thoughts from out here in the peanut gallery are that it would be cool if NHRA took the A/ND class and put them on fuel and called that Jr. Fuel then took something like the Good Guys Nostalgia Funny Car class (rules) and adpoted them for Jr. (Nostalgia) FC.

I have the feeling both would be very popular; all the noise that the fans like with a touch of yesteryear's history plus a chance of being relatively affordable too without all the gizmos, electronics, big blowers, etc. being involved.

    Just my $.02US :)

Al- Nostalgia is just a word for obsolete but good memories- current "nostalgia" cars are just fine at the goodguys stuff- hope they don't become an NHRA fixture- You will hear a lot of screamin from alky racers if they are forced to go slower and run points mags and little tires. Just my 2 cents. Hey it's snowin here and I have cabin fever, so be kind to my mindless rambling.
