I've got one race left this season and am replacing a piston. My motor has moly rings in it, but the only thing i have is a stainless ring to put it back together. Problem is the ring is fairly tight when installed. I cut a ring in half to check the profile and it fits nicely when i stick just the edge in. Do these rings have twist in them that loosens up once you fire it up or what? I've checked several new pistons and they seem to be the same.

Danny set your rings in a flat surface ( glass) to see if they are twisted if ok then with the one you cut in half check to see if it glides ok in the frove.

Rings should be easy to move in the piston or they wont seal.

    tight rings

if they have a black coating on them
flat sand the bottom side untill they fit
thats what i did to mine
and yes they were tight on both new and used pistons
no problems ran all year and looked good when taken
    apart
maybe they coated them too heavy

OK JP, I'm a dumb ass, looks like I must have tweaked the ring (s, 2 actually:) ) installing it without a ring expander, checked it on glass and it was not flat. Took another used the expander and voila! Thanks guys!

It's scary, they'll let anyone work on these things!!

Hey, we all have. Normally you can fix them with a little manipulation if you have to. And I live by a leakdown tester. They are pretty tough. Especially stainless
