I have a Monte Carlo Funny car Body, Just wondering how most of you guys mount this hatch to the body. I have a Burst panel cable mounting kit which came with the body from S&W race cars with the body, But no instructions.
There is four plastic bolts and nuts and two L shaped steel tabs the same as they use to mount the hinges to the escape hatch and five 3/16" bolts and nuts and a Flat Aluminium square shaped plate.

Has anyone mounted a hatch using their kit, that could advise me where to start.

    Thanks Greg

I have never used a S&W kit but have used the Mckinney stuff so it is probably close in design . The plastic screws and nuts are to bolt the burst panel to the body and are supposed to shear in the event of a backfire ( 1 bolt in each corner ) . The square aluminum plate bolts to the underside of the burst panel in the center , I am guessing with the 3/16 bolts ? . Most people use button head screws with the oval head on top of the panel and the nuts on the bottom side to bolt the square panel to the burst panel . From the square aluminum panel there is usually 2 tabs sticking up that an aluminum bolt runs through , a cable is then wrapped around the aluminum bolt and attached to the body support tubes beneath the burst panel . Make sure to leave some slack in the cable so the panel can lift and release pressure in the event of a backfire . I have seen some people saw about halfway through the aluminum bolt so when the car backfires the bolt breaks and the panel leaves the car so it does not do any further damage to the body . Hope this helped you out and good luck with it .

DQUES thanks for your explanation of its installation, But do the plastic bolts get installed by drilling down through the top of the hatch into the lip in the body opening, therefore you would see the head of the plastic bolts on the outside of the body/Hatch.

Yes, the heads of the plastic bolts will be visible on the outside of the body. If the white bolts bother you, you can color them with an ink marker, then they won`t look so bad.

I have mounted them so the bolts are NOT visible to the outside of the body. Glue or glass a thin aluminum angle in each corner to the underside of the panel, mating up to a similar angle attached to the underside of the body. The angles meet back to back and attach with your 1/4" plastic bolt. Looks CLEAN outside and puts the bolt in shear as opposed to tension so it "fails" easier and less body damage;)
