In retorquing my heads, i zeroed my wrench when i finished one side, and then loosened a stud on the other side and started pulling to retorque. I then realized it wasn't set. I suspect i torqued about 100-110#s on ONE stud.I imediately loosened it and set the wrench and retorqued.

    Questions:

    1. replace stud or is 110# not going to hurt it?
    2. replace gasket or did i not hurt it?

Little M Iron block, ARP studs/12pt hardware, SCE copper gaskets, & o-rings

Thanks for the advice (i feel like a mellon head)

just my 2 cents...ok...I don't think you have anything to worry about if I was you I would take out another stud and mic it to see if there was some strech....good luck Dave

Thanks Dave. No damage to the copper? I think the stud is ok, i was more mentally worried about the copper. :)

    head torque

we torque our heads to 225# using Hussey .060 gaskets. You aren't going to hurt the gasket at 110#

Crashly, what was the specified torque on the bolt...85 ft lbs? In the aircraft business if a bolt is over torqued it has to be replaced. One time we found a torque wrench out of calibration in the tool room and had to have them go back on numerous aircraft engine mounting bolts and change them. When that happened we all started talking about it and what was said is that a bolt can take a certain percentage of over torque and be OK but if over a certain percentage then the bolt is over streatched and becomes brittle and may break sometime later. The problem is knowing what this allowable percentage is. Since the bolt is not holding a wing or engine on a plane I would say you are probably OK.
