While I tear my motor down and go through it, I was wondering what your guys opinon of gapless rings on the 2nd groove is. Is it a waste of time and money or will it help?

I have read several articles on testing on gapless second rings and they all say that they cause ring flutter on the first ring. Because of all this testing they came out with new recommended gaps for the first and second rings to help eliminate this ring flutter and promote better sealing. They found by opening up the second ring gap they had better sealing on both the first and second rings. The gapless second rings show real low percent leakdown on an engine that is not running but in this case that is not representative of what is happening when the motor is going down the track.

I have never seen any testing of a gapless first ring.

    gapless rings

Depends on who you talk to as usual. But you will not get a true leakdown with them. I use them because I have used the second C+A ring for a very long time.I'm Old and never had a reason to change. Really never had a problem, but I open the gap up. Don Onimus
