What are people using for a flywheel or flex plate for blown SBC's. We had a failer with our 1600 HP SBX SBC Top Dragster this week. It took out a cross member but the JW bell housing did it's job. We had a JW wheel in it and the ring gear came off. Has anybody used a Hays or Corwler glide type driled for a converter. We were luckey, the car went a 6.54 and came apart at a 1000ft. at only 179.

PS we turn it pretty hard, shifting at 9000 and goes 9500 in the traps

I don't think you want a solid "flexplate". Automatics use a flexplate for a reason, to flex. If you put a solid plate in you will have more issues. I use a TCI flexplate in a 1800 hp BBC altered shift 8000-8500. The only problem I have encountered is every once in a while it will oblong the holes where it bolts to the crank but I think I fixed that last go round. Haven't had a problem in over a year with the same flexplate.

    i use a JW flex plate, twin turbo sbc, runs 6.7's @ 200 , 125 inch altered....
drilled the mounting holes to 1/2 inch , and had the threads in torque converter changed to 1/2 unf.
no problems, has extra tension on mountings.

I had an issue with the JW starting to crack on the tig welds. Has anyone else had this issue?

I had a Johnny Winters "the wheel" had ring gear problems, in the first couple passes, got told "NO warranty on ring gear" switched to TCI flexplate, was cheaper, now has two seasons on it, still perfect

Is the ring gear welded on both sides of the flexplate? We had some trouble a few years back with our Pro Stock clutches trying to spin and throw the ring gears as the guys went from shifting @ 9600 up to 10,500 and beyond. It's not so much a question of horsepower as it is RPM's and centrifugal forces at work. We started welding tabs to the ring gear on both sides of the flywheel and the problem went away as long as the welds are good.

Meziere makes a one piece billet steel one that we use in our 2000hp hemi door car. It costs about as much as it weighs but is almost indestructable, we had to machine a bronze bushing in the pilot but have never otherwise had an issue. Hope this helps.

Only One answer, Meizere. Super qulaity piece. I run one in my 3100 lb screw hemi car.Spin it 9200. I've slung the starter ring off a CSR and JW. Won't happen with the meziere cause it's one piece. last flexplate you'll ever buy.

Better to change the flexplate on your own than for it to change itself.

We run the CSR (black one) in our TAD, we ran the Reactor as well. Both are great pieces and lightweight. We've never hurt or bent one and I think we're putting as much power/torque through it as anyone.

I see that Meizere has come out with an aluminum billet PG flywheel. Has anyone tried it with some power?

    Blessings.....Ron.
