Aluminum "glitter" in my system one oil filter. After our first testing session with new combo. 540 kb/olds, new bearings. Upon removal & inspection of the filter we found a decent amount of glitter. nothing big. Is this normal when breaking in new bearings?

If you have doubts about it,it's alot easier to check bearings than buy all new stuff.

I agree with nuts. Pull the pan and check the bearings especially your thrust bearing. A little glitter is normal but hard to tell how much on the internet.

Are you using V or M bearings or three layer bearings?

I agree, its easier and cheaper to take a peek at a few bearings, or ALL of them than it is to hurt one.

We always get a bit of aluminium glitter in the filter when we put the motor together, no matter how hard I try to make it clean. For us it gets less and less as we put on more runs. I suspect the rockers and heads shed a bit of alloy. Now that we know what to expect it doesnt bother us till we see more than normal.
    Cheers.

Thanks for the replies.Mike, We are using m bearings. I decided to take a look & didn't see anything wrong. Should I see this after every race or is it just because everything is new?
