How much and what type of fluid does a 9.5" Toploader take? It's a mk2 model if it makes any difference (no pump)

We ran 90 wt gear oil to the middle (smaller dia) of the spool. That leaves a couple inches to the surface the cover sits on. I have a manual that I could fax to you if you give me a number

    Strange toploader lubricant

Hi ! I would definately use KENDALL THREE STAR full synthetic 80-140 gearoil. We rebuilt our 9,5" with new gears and bearings this spring and put two quarts of this oil in it. Everything inside looks perfect. Best gearoil I ever saw. Best regards from Scandinavia.

I run a brand name 80-90 synthetic in mine and fill it to where it just covers the middle part of the spool.

Man this is going in a strange direction, everyone in the past that has posted a question on gear oil for a 9 or 9.5 has recieved a bunch of replies saying that synthetics do not protect against shock loading of the gear teeth.

Just a note, and this is my approach you should follow the manufacturers guidelines. I have always used synthetics in all the 9 and 9.5 rears I have asssembled and have had excellent success, however I set them with slightly less backlash than spec as its my contention that with synthetic lube you do not need to have as much clearance and the tighter lash more than makes up for any lack of impact resistance of the synthetic.

Ditto on the RedLine Shock Proof, use the Red Heavy stuff, the lighter Blue allows metal to metal contact, Ive tried BOTH!;)
