Anybody have any experience with a shift light that actually works? I have tried autometer and MSD. Shook the autometer apart and the MSD didn't work at Billings. Of course maybe my eyes were closed? Dave Germain

Have a MSD that plugs right into the Pro Mag system and it never fails. Also have used Auto Meter one that have tach/light....again never had one fail. I've got a few extras for sale if ya need one.

Weird Dave, you sure you have the right helmet or is it mounted high enough to see it....lol. The MSD programable one works great. Trouble is most funny car guys are trying to look around the injector. Need to mount one in each lower corner of windshield. Email me if you need other suggestions.
    thanks

We used a MSD shift light...I used to think it was broke too! That is till Bob Miner suggested moving it to the back of the blower...Bam all the sudden I could see it. Apparently I don't have the vision my dad had, and needed the thing to be directly in my line of sight for me to see it.

Also as Randy Goodwin has said on other posts...MAKE SURE ITS GROUNDED!

According to the Human Factors Engineers if you sit in the seat and make a circle by touch the tip of your thumb to the tip of the index finger which creates the A Okay sign and hold that right up to your eye (not through the visor). That restricted field of vision is what you see under stess or G force. So if you look down the track then your shift light and oil warning light should be visible within that circle:D.

Hey Dave, I have used the SW shift light with the digital tach for the past three seasons with very good luck. Just the base model one, I think it is about $150. I finally replaced the first one after two seasons of abuse. Always works. Mount it right behind the injector on the blower restraint plate. Also helps if you rev it at least as high as the setting as I have heard that if you short shift you will not see it. :D

I've been using the same big LED autometer shift light for 5 years now with the 9118 signal converter box in our TAFC. Never, ever, ever had a single problem...except for the time I forgot to charge the battery, but that's a different story.

I've heard of a few people having issues with them, but maybe I just got a good one. Biggest 2 things I can suggest if you're having problems is to solder all connections crimping just doesn't cut it. You might get lucky for a while, but eventually they'll get loose and crappy. Second thing is to ground everything.

revving the car doesnt seem to be the problem. At Billings on the one good qualifier I shifted 1-2 at 9980 and 2-3 at 10145. The shift light was supposed to come on at 9500. It is the MSD small one that has 4 or 5 shift points that are all programmable. My previous shift light would come on at the preset RPM but go out if you went past it. So it was on for such a brief moment that it was easy to miss.
Doesn't anybody make a simple LED that would come on and stay on until the RPM dropped below the set point? Dave Germain
