i have a 800hp blown gas sbc with 8:1 compression that i'd like to switch to alky. can i compensate for the low compression with more boost on alky or will it run like a pig...thx IA

    Gas sucks!

Its definently not going to run worse with alky, and yes you can run way more boost with alky and 8 to 1 than gas.

From what I hear and read most guys are between 10.5 to 1 and 12.0 to 1 static compression. An 8 to 1 motor should do fine and be very easy to keep happy, its just not gonna run as hard.

What are you trying to do with this thing, is it a bracket car? Hows the motor built?

what are the problems with blown gas? i ran a blown alcohol funny car last year and loved the simplicity of tuning with it so i thought i may convert this engine. i'm looking to run 8's in a 2500lb door car and i don't think 800HP will cut it. i'm not looking to change the compression i just wondered what if anything i can do to make it run ok like it is on alcohol with 8:1. looking for around 1000HP.

I dont think 1000hp would be a problem. I totally agree with Dave, and its a fact, compression does wonderful things for alcohol, but it doesnt sound like you want to set any records. If you have 800hp on gas, after a switch to alcohol and maybe a pulley swap I think you will be set on your 1000 hp.

Using thinner head gaskets will increase the static compression ratio.

you can also angle mill your smallblock heads ... or add some nitro

But if your done with the blown gas why not change you pistons?

Yes I have, and it was great. I ran 25% with the 14 to 1 injected motor. I havent done it with the blower, sounds like a bad idea to me.
