If you want to stay with a 9" or 9.5" ring gear, I would recommend the Strange Toploader. Well built and easy to find parts and gear for. If you want to go to a larger gear go with the 10.5" Chrisman. Awesome piece. Ask someone that has that in their car and good luck finding someone that won't say that it was their one of their best purchases in racing. Great strength and durability, but sometimes (fairly rare, but . . .) hard to find the gears in the ratio you want at a givien time. But when you find the gear they last for a long time.
The MW 11" is an awesome rear end, but know this, they are a Mark Williams, and as such are a different width than the standard Strange/Chrisman distance to the mounting flanges. The chassis has to be built for that rear end! If someone does not have a jig that can adjust to a Mark Williams deal, you could run into problems. It is a good as any rear on the planet, but you just need to know this before you go and buy one for an existing car or ask your chassis builder if this is something they want to do.

If you go with the M/W rear, get the 1 piece drive axle. I wish we would have.

Hey Dale - just curious about using the 1 pc. axle...I just bought a complete M/W 33" wide rear end and it has separate left & right axles...are you concerned with more spline backlash? Just wondered if there was a valid reason for getting a 1 pc. axle or if you had problems with 2 axles....thanks, Scott Gaulter

Yeah me too, did not even know they made such a thing. Sure seems like it would help durability especially during tire shake?

We built a car with the M/W 9 in. modular rear with 40 spline axles, and there is considerable more backlash between the 2 wheels than a couple of other cars I have with other brands of floaters. With the one piece axle you should have 1/2 the amount of backlash, just the amount between the 2 drive plates, and not between the axles and spool. We did'nt know about the one piece untill after we had used the car several races and noticed the backlash.

Do you think that would help or hurt the tendancy to tire shake, especially if one rear tire went to shake before the other?........

    Thanks.

I don't think it matters on tire shake, but we thought it might have more to do with the launch in that if the car did not back up after the burnout real straight, that one axle could be pre-loaded more than the other, making it go crooked right off the line, which it did a couple times. The less slop between the axles the better I believe. Don't know if thats whats happening, just a theory.
