What methods can be used to flush alcohol out of your fuel system. You can drain fuel cell but what about fuel pump and injector pieces. should this be done every weekend

On my blown small block, after weekend of racing, i'll drain the tank, and put in about 3 gallons of regular cheap gas. Put in a set of old warm up spark plugs, and light the motor on gasoline (barrel valve about 1/2 to 2/3 closed). I run the motor for 30 seconds to a minute, rack it a few times to get the pump pressure up and all the lines cleared, then lean it out, drain the fuel out (use it for the lawn mower/generator cuz it is now contaminated with alky) and put the car away.

If the next race is next weekend, i dont do it....

You have to "pickle" it. Drain the tank and leave the cap off until totally dry. Make a fitting to connect and air hose to the barrel valve inlet line and blow air through the whole system. It helps to have the blades open. Stuff and old paper towel roll into the blades to hold them open. Then spray Marvel Mystery oil into the BV and connect up the air again and blow the oil through the system. I do this twice letting the air flow for about 30-45 seconds the first time to dry it all out. Then connect to air hose to the pump outlet and blow back through the pump. Then spray Marvel into the pump and blow again. You can never put too much oil through the pump. If you have a seperate fuel management control then you may need to disconnect more lines and connect up the air hose to make sure you get all those valves. Leave that cap off the tank to let it dry out totally. The only real warning is that the Marvel Mystery oil or whatever you use can contaminate the fuel if you are going through a fuel check. If so then a good warmup at the start of the raceweekend using most the fuel should flush it out. I used to use WD-40 but have found strange deposits in the fuel filter and flow sensor from it.

yep... marvel is the shit for keeping your system happy. plus what is left in the system/pump will blend right in with the first gulp of fuel and burn with no problems

and i've seen so many guys use WD-40 and I DON'T KNOW WHY?? when it mixes with alcohol it does some weird/ugly things... things i would not want in my system

    mineral oil

mineral oil works good too. as long as you don't get too carried away, usually doesn't show back up in fuel check. we chased a problem of the alcohol 'jelly' setting up in the system somewhere, traced it back to the fuel management log we weren't using at the time.

I don't think it makes much difference. I have used both. The spray can is the easiest.

Maybe you should look at the gallon jug.. less expensive and adjustable nozzle spray bottle, works for spraying pistons on install too..:)

yep... super dry. i wipe each piston and the cylinder with lacquer thinner or brake cleaner and a clean cloth

building a race engine... want them to seat ASAP and oil will keep that from happening (or at least slow it down)

I have heard that other machine shops install piston assemeblies dry like Sean mentioned...I spray em with a light coat of WD-40 as the ring manufacturers recommended when i talked with them at PRI....I used to oil drench them in oil - what a messy process....
