Sorry all, Im sure I have seen this somewere here but cant seem to find the thread with search tools (normally spanner and hammer works but not on this)
Building whole new AJPE Wedge PSI Screw Pro Mod, any recommended placement from side of head, EGT sensor on exhaust tube. Was about to mount 2-2.5 from past experience, but didnt mean it was right.

My new informer instructions said between 2" and 4". Very important that they are all the same.

You should check with the manufacturer of the EGT unit that you are using.
I have owned different EGT setups and they have recommended different distances from the header flange.
You also need to find out how much protrusion your probes need into the header and it will be different with some manufacturers on the depth of the probe. With the dept of the probe, it is also a factor weather you are mounting the probes on the top or bottom of the header.

How important is the depth the probe extends into the pipe??
I think it will make some difference but does anyone have any experience as to how much difference varing the depth would make in temp reading on computer?

Dave, I don't think that's always the case.:)

Like I said I have owned a few different units and most of manufacturers have recommended different probe depths if the probe is installed on the top of the header than if it's mounted on the bottom.
How critical is it ?~ I don't know but... I assume they must have found something , because if it doesn't matter... why would they bother saying anything?

I have one set of egt's that protude into the tube about 1/2 and one set that are about 1/4 into the tube. The set I have always run are the ones about 1/4 into the tube but my spares are about 1/2 into the tube. Just wondering if I had to use the spares how much difference in temp would I see?
