Anyone notice that AFC was definitely OFF THE SCHEDULE??? I just pulled it up and looked. I thought they would have at least had the professionalism to announce the class was DEAD before we saw it NOT show up on the schedule for the first event. I guess that is too much to ask. What a complete and utter disappointment.

    My 2 cents..............:(

As far as I know, there has been no "official" announcement. The only info I've seen to date is that previously posted article from competitionplus.com where Aaron casually mentioned "short of an eleventh hour reprieve, nitro and alcohol funny car classes will not run a full schedule." They've done a horrible job being forthcoming with information, and if nothing else, turning a blind eye to their situation. I've been in contact with quite a few IHRA PS and PM teams and you should hear the crap Aaron and Scooter are feeding them.

I feel horrible for all of the IHRA AFC teams, sponsors and suppliers who have been hung out to dry. Even if IHRA survives this year, I think it will be some time before the taste of BS is out of everyone's mouths.

Do you have any plans for NHRA this year?

The Silence is deafening. Even the AFC World Champion is left out of the loop!I sure hope they communicate better with their personal lives cause their professional silence speaks volumes. While this situation doesn't affect a racer like me,I can not believe they think racers with sponsors like Laurie can wait until April to talk money!WHAT IN THE HELL ARE THEY THINKING??????? Even the corner store has the desency to let their loyal customers know they are going out of business! and offer a thank you for past patronage. As for me, they just freed up 3 more matchrace dates. Hope we can fill them!To all the other ihra AFC teams; Thanks for the memories and hope to see you again somewhere. Bill, Kimberley and Matt Naves

Just wondering. What if IHRA did pull out an 11th hour save for AFC. Would I be able to buy a couple of screw blowers cheap? :D:D

As cheap as I let my Roots stuff go, NOT A CHANCE! I'm not going to put up with changing like this AGAIN! There was a day when I said I would never buy a screw blower:eek: Well I actually thought there was NO WAY IHRA would dump ALL the Funny Cars??!! When I was a kid and head those adds on the radio, I would beg and plead with my dad to go see the Funny Cars. To me, drag racing has always had funny cars and I can't imagine anyone selling a National Event Show without Funny Cars??!! Oh well, time to move on, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone from Michfab Motorsports, Tim

First off, Merry Christmas to all, can I still say it that way?
    Would I go back?
    Good question!
I did like the format of the IHRA.
No grading points and other BS,
just pull in pay your money and race.
Many great people in our class and I am sure there are many in NHRA, I look forward to returning and meeting many.
That part I did like very much
Since we just built a brand new car, and finished it in May this year to run IHRA only, now we have to spend excess of 25K to make the changes,
I waited as long as I could wait, for, still no answer?
No for us to go back after selling much of the roots parts,
I probably would have to say no unless we can run the screw there also
and this is after we have not ever ran one or even bolted it together yet
I know business is business with IHRA but I think they could have been more forth coming about what was going on to us, seems there is never enough time for these or for that matter cash to feed it for us un-sponsored teams, we could have been more informed.

I guess a question back at anyone:

Has anyone seen a 2009 IHRA rulebook yet, was A/FC or N/FC even printed in it?

    Happy Holidays

    refund?

Haha, I've been waiting to get it in the mail actually with the magazine I still get...was thinking of sending it back to them with an invoice for half of my chassis tag and half of my license/membership fees since they're both still good for one year...haha!

If the demise of the class was due to not finding a sponsor , I am curious who is sponsoring the T/F , P/M and P/S classes . Has anything been mentioned yet ? .

This is sad indeed, but Laurie just remember if this is permanent for IHRA YOU and your team were the last world Champion and Pro Driver of the year!
    Happy Holiday's and Congratulations again!

    Thanks Kurt!

I appreciate the nice words! But what you may not realize is that the reason I am in an AFC now is that when I won the 2000 World Championship in Pro Outlaw, they canceled that class the following year! I needed another class to race in so we went to AFC. (I'm beginning to get a complex!!!:p)
It is nice to know that I have those accolades plus the 1/8 mile ET and MPH records, too! At least I know there is still somewhere to race the Kalbone's car and I don't have to find another new home. I absolutely love racing a funny car. I never thought I would, but I like it so much more than a dragster.
We're going to have fun in NHRA, too. There are a lot of nice people over there as well and we'll have a blast racing with them. So we're getting the old girl her safety changes done in a couple of weeks and gearing up for some NHRA competition.
Thanks again for such a great car! Hope Tony doesn't want it back now!
Have a great holiday season yourself!
