I guess NHRA does not think the sportmans racers in top alcohol requires any increases in pay outs. Is the new Top Alcohol comitee making any head way for any increase in pay outs for the Top Alcohol classes for 2009?

    nerve

    greg,

you have a lot of nerve bringing this up after all the money you won in medicine hat....lol.

i hate to say it but i doubt the committee is going to make any headway on payouts.

Any one know how long it has been since the purse for
TA was increased at the division level and also the Nationals?
I don't know but bet its been quite a number of years.
There is nothing more important for the Sportsman committe to do than get an increase in the purse. They say how much they care about the Sportsman racers but I would like to see them give us some more money instead of talk.

    Less is more

    Do the math..
Just by shortening up the track from 1320 to 1000 is a 25% increase;)

Dont count on a Alky purse increase:mad:

    Increase

This morning I sent out an e-mail to the other committee members asking for action on an increase for the alky cars also. Have not had time to get replies back yet. Hopefully we can get something, but I wouldn't order extra spare parts yet.

    Pro Payout

i think the NHRA should increase the payout in all classes just to offset the fuel prices that the government/oil companies are bending us over for.

    NHRA could turn that around.

"NHRA should decrease the payout in all classes just to offset the fuel prices that the government/oil companies are bending them over for."

Problem is the TA classes have no leverage. Seems like the attitude is if you don't like getting dumped on then leave! This is a hard position to bargain from. Don't we have anybody at NHRA on our side in this or is being on our side an automatic loss of your job? There is no regaurd for the increased cost every year for at least the last 10. I don't think there is anyone out there who expects to race on winnings alone but at least an increase would help and show there was some degree of respec for these classes.

only if they lower the ticket prices and i haven't seen that happen in the last 30 years have you

    costs continue to go up
what did a set of rods cost 10 years ago 400ish
    now we pay a 1000 a set
everything costs almost triple to what it did 10 years ago
look at the price of chassis's and bodies now compared to then
    blocks 2500 then now 7500

If NHRA just redid there Schedule that would be a 25% increase for the pros with the high cost of fuel. I know the fuel price has put a big damper on our racing. We don’t go by MPG we go my MPD (Miles per Dollars) and we get about 1 ¼ miles to the dollar I really dont see how any of you guys running TA/D and FC can still be racing with what it cost you

Maybe NHRA should start giving fans a rebate on their tickets when there is not full fields in top fuel. Don Purdome has it right. The costs in top fuel have escalated to the point that It is almost impossible for independants to compete even on a limited basis. There are a few exceptions but very few!
Now I hear that Will's car may only run the Friday night qualifing run if they think it will get them in the show. Wonder how many others are looking at this. Next NHRA will come up with a rule that says if you don't run all the qualifing runs points and payout will be reduced for your car. I have to admit that qualifing is not the same when everyone that shows up gets in. This will reduce the attandance for Friday and Saturday eventually. Tell you how to reduce the cost and slow them down. Take the blowers off. Reduce the minimum wt. by the amount of the difference between the blower setup and injected setup, four disc clutches only. Same 500 cid as now but allow 2 speed trans if you want them. Limit fuel pumps to 55 gpm. these cars would still shake the stands put the header flames up to the wings run in the 4's @ 300 mph and open the door for some more independants to compete. This will however never happen for a number of reasons. One there is a heck of a lot of money being made off selling new blowers and blower repair. Two The crew chiefs that have been running blowers for so long would not want to change.
