Would a tripple disc clutch be more forgiving than a dual disc set up in general ?

    discs

Rick, that depends on the engine/clutch/tranny/rear ratio set up. I run a two disc in my altered, but it's only a 470" KB with a 14-71 Mert, and a Crowerglide. Lenco 3 speed and 4.10 gears. I don't make enough power to need a triple disc, and I can .980 60' all day and has gone 6.70@204 and doesn't hurt anything...Mike

Pretty much, less maintenence between rounds and change discs less often.

Wouldn't a three disc clutch in that setup tend to "grab" and drag the motor down too much, making the "sweet" spot in the tuneup narrower? Not sure just a guess.

    three vs two area issue

The three disc has a lot more disc area and as a result will use a lot less counter weight and or spring for the same grab. In our setup, the three had a lot narrower tuning window. The two disc was not prone to rattling the tire in the gear change as much as the three disc.
One of the tuning tricks is to cut down the discs to reduce disc area to reduce the grab.
