I'm still new at this, but am I correct in thinking that timing has a direct effect on my fuel setup? If I take timing away, the fuel setup gets richer? Also switched from a Super Mag to a MSD 44, so I’m pretty sure that I need to take timing away. What’s a good starting point for timing?

Mike that was a great page you wrote...so do you think I need to add more timming since I run 2 mallory mags? we start out with 40deg. then 60 foot out we knock out timming to 38deg then at the one two shift we take out more to 36deg. p.s. brad fuel heads not fat heads..Dave

    fuel vs timing

so just for the sake of conversation i had 38 degrees on a 44amp with the fuel system setup at apx 14.gl. then changed the timing to 28 degrees would the motor have to much fuel? will i need to lean or fatten it up to compensate for the chage in timing. thank steve

The simple answer, Yes, your plugs will go cold backing the timing off.

10° is alot, if you are backing off the timing in order to decrease HP than I'm wondering why your concerned with your fuel being too rich.

If your looking to increase HP by backing off the timing then i suggest reading Mike Canter's Spark Plug Reading 101, it will lead you through setting the timing and fuel.

Ok, before we all run out and buy Mike's book. Can someone help locate the information spoke of earlier? Mike Canter's plug reading 101. I've searched all over this site with no luck.
    Thanks, Alcoholic
