My understanding is that 14mm belts are the strongest and 8mm are the weakest but have the largest selection of ratios.

Then their is GT which are stronger.
Can you run a GT profile belt on HTD pulleys?
    Do many people run GT's?

    Is a 14mm 1778 belt common?

Um, I don't know that this is accurate in this day/age.

I was under the impression that the 14mm belts were the strongest, back in the day.

This was when the 14mm were HTD, and the 8mm were plain old rubber.

Once GT and GT2 profiles were introduced, I think all this changed.

Right about now, if I could trade my 14mm pulleys and belt even up for 8mm GT stuff, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

    belts

i have heard that the new 11MM belts are the strongest but i don't know
but the 1778 belt isn't that common because it is so long.
just wondering what is your pulley center to center and how much OD i might have some belts and pulleys?

Jesse @ Good Vibrations just said you can run a GT belt in a HTD pulley but not vice versa.
My center to center is currently 20.25" which with a 28t and 40t and a 13.9mm 1543mm long it just works. The thing is, I'm switching intakes (building, buying, modifying) and if I had it my way I'd use a tunnel ram (after strengthening it for the blower). Since 13.9 belts aren't made longer and I can kind of make my center to center whatever I want, its a pretty clean slate.
Brian @ Sassy said 14mm GT 1750 long is his normal.
At this point I'm leaning towards 14mm, either 1750 or 1778, so I would need a 40 and 28 pulleys.
    Any advice guy?

    SoDak,

    I have a used 1750 belt, 14MM.
Has just a touch of fraying in one spot like the pulley alinment was slightly off. Otherwise looks great.

I also have a tunnel ram intake with a plate welded on for a blower.
This may be a Wizard intake? Whoever made this did a beautiful job.

Send me an E-mail and I can send you pics of the belt and intake.

They can make finer adjustments on overdrive ratio's with the 8mm pulleys since the pulleys have more teeth than the 14's. They usually change belts every pass whether they look good or not.

Most of their stuff is tractor and truck pull, 1/2" tall deck, would that long of a belt work on a std. or 1/2" short deck?

Ye, most of it is pulling motors. My understanding is most of them have 4.5" stroke in them.
Did any of you run against them when they ran a funny car?
His mom Rodalyn Knox drove the drag car and the 6 engine mod tractor.
