The Germain Motorsports/Quinault Beach Resort and Casino Top Alcohol Funny Car team traveled to Las Vegas for preseason testing for the weekend of Jan 25-27. The trip down was relatively uneventful other than the unintended donation of all the teams hand tools, air tools, power tools and desktop computer to some needy individuals in a motel parking lot in Stockton, CA. Imagine thinking that you are going to run your car on as many test runs as poosible for the weekend but without ANY tools? So the rig arrives at Las Vegas just in time to find out the event was cancelled. Wahoo- solves the tool problem for this weekend. Always a silver lining to every cloud. Anybody have any really cool ideas for successfully securing your trailer? Just so long as it doesn't require tools to install it........ Dave Germain

Sorry to hear the horrible news; there are too many a-buckets in this world.

These types of deals always seem to happen at hotels. Avoid hotels, utilize truck stops and stay in the rig.

    That sucks Dave!

But let me tell you from personal experience it could be far worse. At least you still have your race car and trailer. 4 years ago some asshole decided they needed my 24 ft trailer more than I did. Said trailer had about 10k in tools, support equipment, firesuit and my Super Comp car in it. Dont know if the thieves knew what was in it or had one hell of a surprise when they cut the locks off the doors. My homeowners insurance compensated me for everything but the race car. Now I have alot of really nice brand new Craftsman tools and stuff filling my garage. Still no race car though :(

So while it does suck that thieves hit you, it can always be worse.

Hey Dave, I'm so sorry to hear of your trip and the theft.

Enjoy those Bloody Mary's (I hope you're having at least some doubles at this point) and when you get home you can get all your paperwork done to replenish your tool inventory.

Like Frankie says, at least you still have a trailer and car to start the season when it begins. A Huge Silver Lining!!

    Be safe going home.

    Dave,

Sorry to hear about that. Our last race of the season in Sacramento someone tried to break out the back window of my dually. They must have gotten spooked because all they did was shatter the window and it was still held in tack by the tint. Anyway, if you need somewhere to keep your car in Vegas let me know. I keep my stuff on Nellis AFB which is pretty safe. I've got an extra 50' spot you could use and its right by the racetrack. They sell alarm systems for trailers that aren't too expensive and would probably spook 60% of most thieves. Cheap insurance, I think I'm going to look into it now too. Good luck next year...Car looks great.

    Chris,
When you park on base, who was your point of contact, Im sure that the Commander was involved!!!! It's his base! Can you park behind the gate at Maintenance, or is it in the over flow parking??I'm just finishing 24 years in the Guard. Thanx for the info.

I'm active duty air force so you can rent spots in the RV storage yard from outdoor rec. I've got 2- 50' spots and they aren't very much a month. I had 2 trailers but I got rid of one of them, so I've got an open spot. I actually leased shop space from the auto hobby shop to work on my funny car last season as well.

Chris, are you at McChord? I will be there tomorrow teaching a class to the fire dept. there. I am there a lot, tues, thurs and friday this week. I would rather park on base than anywhere in the world. Dave

No, I moved down to Vegas last April. I wasn't home often enough to race when I was flying the C-17 so I volunteered to come down here to fly the unmanned stuff. Now I get most weekends off and I'm closer to the west coast racing scene. I ran CIFCA last year and finished 7th. My dad (Jeff Bennett-No Mercy Fuel Altered/Funny Car) and I have teamed up to build a nostalgia funny car for this year. Here's our press release:

I've got a house right around the corner from Hadmans, W. Austins, Parkers, and Severances place with a 1000 sq. ft. shop and paint booth I'm trying to rent if you know of anyone interested. Plenty of room for trailers and such. That was the only downside of moving, I don't have a shop anymore and my stuff is all spread out.
