    loaded question

how much is too much is a loaded question. there's a lot more to that than just saying, sure you need more timing. i do know that too much timing will really wreck some parts quickly.

if you're wanting to try more timing, bump it up in half degree increments with a careful look at the bearings. log the bearing measurements (width and end to end) before the run and carefully analyze after the run. also it's common practice to scrape the rolled babbit material off the bearing prior to making a measurement. that shouldn't be considered part of your bearing 'squash'. if you are running a clevite 'm' (soft) bearing, the bearings should not be pushed out any more than .002-.003 than what they were when they went in the motor at the bottom middle of the bearing. if you are running the 'v' bearing which is the hard bearing, then you don't want to see much more than .001 at the bottom of the bearing and need to take a close look at the end to end clearance. if you hammer on a v bearing it will close up the gap from end to end. if the measurement gets below 2.500", then the bearing is either getting hit or has too many runs on it. if all of the bearings are less than 2.500, then you probably have too much timing. like i said though, make sure you measure the bearings before they go in, so you know what you're working with.

    Thanks guys.
I was really just trying to tease out anyone that had experimented with some different timing tunes, (saves some parts) it appears noboddy is giving up their secrets.

you can run 50's at 26 degrees no need to go higher then that in that kind of air

and I have a bunch of scrap aluminum to prove that. one thing i learned (the hard way) is when you get lean with LOW timing, it will knock the burst panel out, and mabey tighten a ring land . if you go lean with ALOT of timing, it still kicks the panels out, but rods also.
