The Nebraska GM MM Forum with Crazy Steve's DEI (and the intercooled iDEI) system has attracted so much attention that it has eaten up all their bandwidth usage for this month. 500'000 views within 8 days of posting, on a forum that averege somewhere around 200 views/post. Steve is the laughingstock of the Internet with this, in his eyes, serious project...
It's hard to believe that this is actually for real...

Posted: Wed Nov 07, 2007 2:50 pm Post subject: Turbo Questions

First off, Jay, stay out of this.

Ok. I didn't want to mention it but I was thinking about turbo charging my Vette. I got to thinking about it and how in efficient even turbos are (compressor efficiencies of about 80% at best).

Since a turbo's function is to pressurize incoming air and force it into the upper motor, and turbos are driven by high pressure exhaust gas created from the combustion process, couldn't I just bypass the turbo altogether and route my headers back into the throttle bodies?

Since I have CFI, I could balance the DEI (direct exhaust injection as I just coined it) by feeding one header into each throttle body. Yes, the charge air wouldn’t be that cold, but it would be under a hell of a lot more pressure.

I attached a quick sketch below:

    http://www.twoguysgarage.com/forum/showthread.php?p=104922#post104922

There are still a few things I need to work out:
    1) How do I get the CFI aircleaner to fit in a way that hides this plumbing?
    2) Does anyone make a V-band clamp that will bolt an exhaust header to a CFI throttle body?
    3) What pinion angle should I use in my rear-end? I’m sure there will be a noticeable difference in torque output.

    What do you guys think?

Yes I know, back in the day soom used heat for horsepower. Smokey Yunick was very successful with it, but not like this. Now I think I've heard it all.

He's such a genius with engine technology that he's asking about pinion angles?

    :eek::rolleyes:

    Wil

The craziest thing is that you can buy shirts with his sketch on them already.

I think that we should all chip in a buy one for Wil Hanna for Christmas.

    How about it ITA folks??

And if he jacks up the radiator cap the pinion angel will be ok.

    You Go Get'em Steve

:)They laughed at the Wright Brothers too.
The real problem as I see it is this, keeping the muffler bearings cool.
The pinion angle will automatically self adjust.

But if the muffler bearings dont reach operating temperature, what will happen with the blinker fluid?

    balls

If he has not done so, he should change the standard steel muffler bearings with the new titanium ones with the carbon fiber coating. Manzo uses them, and I swear by them if he says so. Also check the alignment of the valve stem caps, as at speed they tend to pull.
