I've followed several threads on here about having (approx) 17 quarts of oil capacity in the engine to run the 1/4 mile. My question is, do you over fill the pan past the windage tray or do you kick it way out on the sides to keep the oil level below?
I don't really see any massive sized oil pans on hemi powered dragsters and funnys. Any info would be great! Thank you.

the 17 quarts refers to a dry sump system. Wet sumps even slightly over filled will work with a roots but just wont with a psi. they rpm so much quicker I guess. A P & P dry sump is cheap insurance in the long run

Please explain a little more about why 17 qts wont work in a dry sump with a PSI.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. 17 quarts with a dry sump on a PSI will work. Wet sumps won't.

Not misunderstood, I meant to type wet sump...lol.

    I will start all over.

Why will 17 qts not work with a wet sump in a PSI application?

My pan only holds 10qts. I think the man means that wet sumps wont work with a PSI no matter the capacity. I too am curious why.

I too am kind of curious about the statement made above re: wet sumps & screws, and was hoping for a reply to this thread by now. Maybe a little nudge will help........

Can a well built wet sump oiling system (deep baffled Olson pan, Titan pump, accusump, 12 in the pan, 3 in the accusump, with appropriate oil control inside the engine, vented to atmosphere) still feed the needs of a screw blown high rev'ing PSI screw deal?

I'd be very interested in thoughts before we get "too" far down the road laid out above. We're trying to avoid the clutter, weight, and hassle of a Chev style dry sump setup if possible, which is why we opted for the simpler wet sump approach.

There must be screw blown funny cars and dragsters running around with wet sumps? What do they do?

    Thanks.

I have a 9500 rpm, screw blown, top dragster and went from using 12 quarts and losing oil pressure at about half track to running 7 1/2 quarts and not losing oil pressure at all!! Doug Lee's Pro Pan will fix your problems. There's also one of his pans on a Fontana that runs in the mid 5's that not only solved lack of oil pressure, but it actually increased the oil pressure 10 psi by eliminating entrained air in the oil. The less entrained air in the oil, the better the bearing life. Give me a call at 620-663-4949 or Doug Lee at 918-542-4686.

What blocks are yall running? We went through two sets of rods in two runs running 16, then 18qts in a wet sump with a BAE forged block, BAE-6 heads, PSI. I met an outlaw promod guy who had the same issue, so we're not the first. I think the crank would have to be drowing in oil to have enough to get to the finish line. Dry sump is definitely the way to go.
