Transmission cooler lenco drive

    looking at a c&r chiller I believe it's made for cooling the radiator system wondering if it could be used to cool the trans fluid in our lenco drive

    It probably would work but $2700 for a cooler is a little much. I use a Synder Motorsports unit which works just great and is one heck of a lot cheaper and lighter. If you haven't seen one then go here and scroll down.

    Thanks mike I found a used one for 500 with all the jiffy tite fittings just wasn't sure if it would work or not

    Built my own . build a tank 2 coolers cheap. They are all just minor fix, Because when your fire again the heat is back. Change your oil to the right one & you won't have problems & go a season on the same oil.

    My Top Dragster customer built one himself, pretty easy. Do a google search for a hot oil gear pump, get a couple of trans coolers from jegs, an old ice chest, then do the plumbing and mounting.

    When you order the jiffy tite quick connects make sure you get the ones with the o-rings for hot ATF. I don't think hydraulic fittings flow enough for the application.

    And the right oil being?
    I run a Bruno w/ Lenco CS2, and if there is better / cooler oil out there (other than good ATF) i'd like to hear about it.

    For the Bruno Red Line Lightweight Racing ATF and for the CS2 30 weight oil.

    Try this one Amsoil compressor oil ISO 46 SAE 20 weight it handles more heat
    try this & you won't look back.

    I would like to take credit for this design, but the original idea was from Bruce & Jared Micetich - Advance Transmission in Knoxville, Iowa - they designed this Lencodrive cooler and modified my valve body & case to accept quick disconnect dry-loc fittings....It flushes the fluid back through the converter and cools the trans to ambient temp withing a few minutes....it's 12 volt so ya gotta charge the battery between rounds....

    I just built this one similar to theirs and it works great!

    Is there a need to get the fluid below ambient tempature we race on some pretty hot days here in the Midwest

    That is one argument for the ice chest coolers....they will bring the temp down below ambient temp that day...

    that stuff works in the Bruno & converter?
    i'd sure like to know of a few other folks that run that before I change to it....don't want to hurt anything...

    I can tell you that PM's like Adam and Todd Tutterow use the Red Line Lightweight ATF in the Bruno and have never had a overheat problem or any other problems.

    Yes it will work in a Bruno
    I had a mate that race with me having problems with a Bruno always hot cooking every thing.
    Now he use Amsoil best thing sine slice bread.
    you won't hurt things everything is like new when pull down.

    I don't have an overheat problem per say.....When I used to run (and will start again w/ a few races) the TD class, the crosstalk allowed me to not be on the converter any longer than I had to; it's just I also run w/ a local group at small tracks, a .400 pro tree, no electronics, and when I dial a 6.30 & run a car dialed 7.70, and the tower may delay the lights too long, then i'm up on the converter too long, and THAT"S my concern....as I destroyed a $3K converter once due to this.
    Yes, I do run a small rad (no fan).
    If any oil will keep it a bit cooler, that'll help my piece of mind a bunch.
