Screen on inlet of blower

Anybody run a screen on the inlet of their blower and does anyone know if a screen causes a restriction?

 

I would think that there would be a restriction. If you took the wire diameter X the number of wires across the width and do the same for the height, you could take those 2 numbers and get the square inches of blockage. I'm not sure how it would affect your application but I could see a restriction.

There once was a "secret" that the screen improved the distribution in the air stream of the fuel coming out of the hat.

 

i don't know about any secrets using a screen but I have always run a screen on the inlet between the hat and the blower inlet simply because the tracks that I sometimes attend might ("DO") have debris on the track and the thought of having something injested does not sit well with me.

 

Many years ago i made a screen using fly screen mesh sandwiched between 2 pieces of ali. flow bench revealed.....

No Restriction what so ever

 

What kind offlow bench do you own that would show this????
