A lot of guys running lockup converters are installing a 1" spacer behind the mid plate instead of buying a correct depth can. By doing this, wouldn't they be negating the 6.3 cert? Now the flex plate is no longer engaged in the can, and the aluminum spacer is now the safety device.

How deep does a can typically have to be for a lockup converter?

A quick drive nonlockup is 7.5"; a lockup version is 8.5" deep. The added inch comes from the converter being larger to accommodate the lockup clutches.

So a Bruno would require the same extra inch depth also.

So an 8-5/8" can would work just about perfect then. Seems like a no-brainer to me. I guess the guys with the spacers don't like their feet as they are?.........
