I have a Roots blown alky RE dragster 10" crower pedal clutch about 1800-2000 HP. 1/8 mile. best ET 4.22 running Hoosier C2055 34.5 17.00 -16 on bead locks.

    4.56 Rear Gear

started with 1.96 1st gear Never had serious tire shake no matter where the clutch was. I think we were on the edge of it....

    now using 2.17 1st gear.

best 60' to date .998 most are 1.01 drive shaft rpm dips and we cant get rid of it. changed gear ratio have been all over with the clutch. too much clutch and we shake. wondering if this tire is too much for the car?
we run at one track and it has very good bite. other tire options for this combo?
    Thanks for any input.

    Turbo,

KB Olds with AJ Stage 1 heads. Leaving at 5000 We dont have a mag controller. SM #4 by FIE. That's i why I posted a thread a while back to get some feedback on the air timing controller FIE makes. I did not get anything. I know most of you guys are using the MSD Grid deal. We have been talking about the timing control for a while.. We are trying to get some feedback on what we need to do this winter.

    thanks!

What is the engine rpm when wheel speed dips ? Shift point ? Sounds like a lot of gear for a dragster. I think Spud developed his air retard / advance for the Nostalgia Funny Car guys. They have to run a points mag and that is the legal way to change timing. Mike Dunn made air mag drives too. You can get a used one of these pretty cheap.

Nitro, 7200 Engine RPM when the Drive shaft dips. My shift points are all over the place yet!
Not sure the dunn set up will change the Timing very many degrees. I think the FIE is a good option.

I wouldn't be worried about timing etc till I sorted the first gear! Going to a 2.17 in my opinion was the wrong direction to an already stout first gear. Take out first gear and put the clutch back into it..
