Pro mag 12 timing

    Hi all, I'm running a 451 cube KB short deck Hemi, Brad 3 fat heads, 14/71 with 23% od 30psi, now I'm swapping from a supermag 3 running 28* timing to a pro mag 12, do these have a better spark where less timing needed? We want to put a little more boost in aswell before next meet to 27% od.

    Non MSD ProMags retard when under load as much as 3 degrees. MSD ProMags have a compensation circuit that keeps timing stable so the ignition timing needs to be retarded from your 28*. I would not have more than 26* and would recommend starting off with 24 to 25 degrees.

    Mike, not sure I understand ? " Non MSD ProMags " ??? Are these an imitation MSD mag ?????

    Talking about Mallory Supermags. MSD ProMags have a timing compensation circuit in the Points Box to make the timing not change when the mag is under load. So with your Supermag you might have had 28* set in it but as soon as it went under extreme load during the run you were most likely only at 25* on timing and that is why with a MSD ProMag you need to be at 25*

    I believe this is true for any points mag, like Vertex, Cirello, Mallory, etc
