    Wire them in a series, positive of one battery to negative on the next battery and continue till you have one positive and one negative left open. Done with 4 12 volt batteries will give you 48 volts.

    +1 to the above. You will charge from those same two terminals as well. Also, if these batteries are on board the car, you can use one of those batteries for 12v too. Just hook your wires to the positive and negative of one of the batteries only. But, you will need to charge it with 12v then float the whole pack with 48v.

    Go to the link and view the diagram (24 volt battery bank-series). They are using (4) 6 volt batteries to produce 24 volts. Wire your (4) 12 volt batteries the same as the diagram and you will produce 48 volts.

    Just make certain when you get two or three of them wired that you don't make accidental contact with the wrong terminal. The explosions can be very damaging, even lethal. JW

    We run 2/0 cable on our 48v system but it is overkill.

    Thanks everyone for your help;;Everyone helped..Everyone has there own ways of doing things and some ways are easier for a person to understand then other ways is all..i take all help and put it all together to find a way I myself understands the best;;;You all have been a big help on this first time build of mine;;Did not mean to upset anyone by asking for other ways to do something;;Just sometimes when I get to hi tech answers I have hard time breaking it down to simple way of doing it;;Not that i'm not listen to what you have to say it's sometimes over my head so have to find a answer more down on a beginners way of seeing things;;IT'S like on another post where I was asking about what batteries to get;;I understand the best and easiest is to buy a $1200 RCD battery pack but I couldn't go that way because it wasn't in my budget to go that way;;So had to keep asking and searching for a answer that would work for me in my budget;;Just because I don't use your way of doing something doesn't mean I don't agree with you;IT'S BECAUSE YOUR WAY I CAN'T AFFORD OR I DON'T UNDERSTAND COMPLETLY IS WHY I DON'T USE YOUR WAY..THAT'S ALL.;;PLEASE REMEMBER GUYS;THIS IS NEW AND FIRST TIME SO I'M LEARNING AS I GO ON..YOU ALL HAS BEEN A BIG HELP AND LAST THING I WANT IS HARD FEELINGS BECAUSE I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND YOUR WAY OR COULDN'T AFFORD YOUER WAY;;

    It might be simplier in Nevada to use a recoil pull rope with two big crew members, forget the batteries and starter:D

    haha;;maybe;;;.it's all good..got all lined out and battery and starter issue done..time move on to something else new to learn;;this build has been a major learning experance..I know sometimes I ask simple stuff to most you guys but I rather ask a dum quest about something and save myself from making a mistake then pretend to know everything and cost me broken stuff or even getting hurt or hurting someone else.
