I like a rimac but you have to know how to use it ! A lot of people just shove a spring in there and pull to a measurement. I like to use a height mic with my retainer in it at your install height and then use that spring and retainer to get the most accurate measurement .

    Bingo!

I would put a retainer on the spring and a retainer on a height mic, set the height mic at my installed height, and use the height mic as a stop as I checked the spring. No guessing.

    Valve spring tester

If you mean on head style you cant beat the leanders tool available from speed city which I believe everyone has copied anyway, but if you mean off motor then I personally like the intercomp vst-2000 which has a digital scale and digital vernier built in for height. And if you measure without the retainer you will be way down on pressure as it takes about .250" travel before you starting compressing the inner springs without one!!

Many times we would assemble sets of springs by separating the inners from the outers, measure a set of outers and measure a set of inners, toss the bad, keep the good, and reassemble as desired. This helped us to get the most runs out of them. And since we always ran on a tight budget it helped the spring budget a bit. But then I know I'm preaching to the choir as most of you are already doing that.

    valve spring tester

Thanks Everyone for their replies, much appreciated, I was looking for a on Bench style tester for a hemi. I have a cannister motorsport spring checker and tester thats works great. I managed to purchase a Rimac valve spring tester from someone on here. Thanks ITA for the site.
    Regards Greg

While quite expensive, I use this one. It is accurate and fast once you set the first one up. Digital is the way to go when close enough is not good enough. :)
