I have a cast aluminum solid Hemi block with steel main caps. I intend to build a twin turbo alcohol motor. My power goals are between 2500-3000hp. Should I have aluminum caps installed or stick with the caps that are already on the block. The mains 9/16" with dual 1/2" cross bolts. If I stay with the steel caps, what would the side effects be for the block, crank and bearings? I will only be attending 5 races a year plus test sessions.

    Thank you.

is the block a 10 bolt head pattern. that would be a limiting factor on power level. Pushrod galling would be my other concern. not caps.

I personally love the steel main caps, don't know why they ever went away from them. Maybe just weight. The aluminum caps tend to break after so many cycles, really inconvenient!

I heard about as often as rods... I had originally requested aluminum caps, but the manufacturer talked me into steel caps since I won't have the load from a blower. He sent me a set of loose aluminum caps in case I ever switch.

I tried posting a picture, but it did not seem to be approved. I have Stage V Millennium heads.
