I would also worry how it would act under positive pressure if you hurt a piston ----

    Oil Level Indicator

I made a dipstick arrangement for my brad hemi. Drilled a hole in the block pan rail against the vertical side of the block at an angle sufficient to clear the oil pan when installed. The drilled and tapped hole is just before the pan rail turns inward towards the crank. Got about a 15" piece of SS braided -6 hose and an appropriate 1/8" mpt by -6 male adapter, installed the adapter in the block and attached the braided hose (that had a -6 female AN fitting on each end)to it. Clamped the other end with the -6 female fitting on it to the front motor plate. Cut an appropriate length of 1/8" braided steel cable that would reach near the bottom of the oil pan and secured one end of it through an 1/8" drilled hole in the -6 plug, put a small set screw in it to secure the cable and coated the loose end of the cable with JB weld. Let it harden, sanded it down a little and inserted the cable into the hose and now it goes down into the oil pan area. Used the loose oil pan to find and mark a hole for the cable to go past the windage tray. Drilled another hole in the windage tray, installed the oil pan and filled the pan with 14 quarts of oil. Took the dipstick out and measured the oil level on the stick with a known quantity of 14 quarts. About 4.25" on my motor. VOILA!! Now I can check my oil level anytime AND check the color of the oil. The -6 plug screws securely into the end of the hose and can not blow out because of internal pressure or hurt pistons. Nothing fancy but looks fine and have had zero issues in four years. About $15 in hose and fittings and about an hour of my time. Problem solved. Took some of the guess work out of my oil level and dilution.

    Oil level indicator

I have used a clear hose plumbed to the drain plug on one end and open on the other. Fix the open end up high and you can see the oil level in the pan or dry sump tank when you are doing the dyno pulls. If you get really carried away you can use a steel ruler and a video camera and plot the oil level as a function of RPM.

    Simple and it works !
