Hey what happened to the play by play reports from the Lucas Oil Regional events? I heard rumors DRC isnt doing them anymore- something about losing the sponsor? Who was the sponsor? I believe sponsorship works two ways. I drank Bubble-Up soda when i was a kid because they were sponsoring my hero Gordie Bonin. When that deal went away so did I as a Bubble-Up consumer. I really dont mind NOT shopping at a company if they dont support my sport. Dave Germain

They do not have the resources this year, whether they lost sponsorship money, NHRA is not bucking up or just not in the budget

too bad there will be a recap every evening and the sunday results will be posted late today or tomorrow.

I hope NHRA understands this is not cool and re - ups or finds money in the budget to fund this.

    race coverage.

maybe we could get someone from each region to post to the ITA websight the results. i am sure that some has a crew guy that might be able to post the results during the day. just an idea

Anyone else shocked that NHRA can't provide a running feed from the tower at all of these races? The data is already being monitored, so why not transmit it via their site as well?

    Goood Morning All

This is my first post and I am a new memeber! I check this site from time to time and this thread caught my eye as I also found it very frustrating not being able to follow the race results on the internet. I think maybe its time we stop relying on NHRA as we know they will find everything in their power NOT to fund our program and therefore possibly help with the results as a group? I have 9 guys on my crew and I feel I can have one of them easily at the Las Vegas Regional record the results and send them to Will to post on this site. Maybe others can take turns at the rest of the West races that have several crew members and can spare a guy or lady with a pen and paper? Just a thought if you would like me to help i would be happy to.

    Happy Friday Everyone!

The story as I heard it......

Summit had sponsored all NHRA coverage for several years to DRC which is a private deal run by Rick Green and Larry Sullivan (I believe).Summit needed to readjust budget for the great new coverage for the latest version of IHRA (I watched Cordova Sat. live on Motor Mania, best connection I've ever had on my 60 year old ATT wiring that is normally worse than dial up, that they call hi-speed).
I think the network of DRC is still in place (traveling guys who love the sport), who are still available if local sponsorship is found. We have seen some reporting this way so far this year.
I think Larry looks in here occasionally, hopefully he'll see this and respond as to how it really works (as I'm old and have CRS)

DRC is looking for $1500 an event to cover a race.

Some divisions have sponsors that are sponsoring the race coverage. Others do not.

$1500 an event...that's like $3 a car at a decent 500 entry turnout....where the average entry fee, across the board, is about $200.
Three bucks...like buying a beer (are good Canadian beer cost a bit more...)
    Peanuts.
Yet NHRA's divisional websites all state: 'go to Dragrace Central for results'.
With all the cash grabs that our almighty NHRA entity (that is completely made up of us loyal NON-voting members) instills on us, you would think, for at least a nano-second, that they may pony up a morsel or two to help out.
Even a 3 way deal between nhra, the track, and a sponsor. You'll get a sponsor for 500 easier than 1500.

The future of any sport relies on escalating the present interest level, and for all those (and there are many) 'armchair' fans that get weekend fix, along with all of us racers that rely on a site for up-to-the-minute round by round results, we need to find a way to get this site back on track.
Even if it means I have one less beer at the track...

    good point

I don't think too many people would balk at a $10 increase to every tech card to cover race reporting.

I have covered a few races and it's very, very hard to do without DRC's interface with the timing data. They just have to type in their notes after a run. If they want incrementals, just click a button and they are added to their note. Same for margin of victory, how far behind, etc.

When I covered the Houston race, I would have to take a snap shot of the computer monitor after a run, then type my ass off as quick as I could to try to get the name of the competitor, lane, ET, and then look at the picture of the screen to see if the incrementals, MOV, etc., was worth reporting.

If they are only looking to get $1500 a race, when you factor the hours to cover the race all-day, from first car to last car, it's probably below minimum wage once you take travel, rental car and hotel into it.
